Poetry of People / Day 99

Today, we connected with Ashlyn, 19, from Bellevue, Washington.

"I was scared of you.

Scared of what you had done to me,

and how you made me feel.

Scared that anyone could make me feel like that.

When I thought of you,

my heartbeat would quicken

and I broke out into a cold sweat

as if I had spotted a venomous spider

inching towards my veins.

I was scared.

But like the fears that came before this one,

I would grow,

and one day realize I no longer was scared.

One day, I will no longer be scared.

Of you,

and how you were able to hurt me."
